This December, we are running numeracy courses for students in Year 1 to 6.
Course Summaries
Year 1 – Numeracy: Number Course (5 lessons)
This 5-lesson course will teach students to master Year 1-level counting and number recognition skills. Our experienced tutors will use a range of interactive teaching techniques to help students count fluently and accurately write numbers in words.
Skills taught on this course include:
- Counting from 1 to 50
- Counting from 50 to 100
- Writing figures
- Using number lines
- Writing numbers 1 to 20 in words
All class workbooks will be provided by the tutor. This course is suitable for students currently in Year 1 and students starting Year 1 next September.
This course follows the KS1 National Numeracy Curriculum for ‘Number’ topic.
Year 2 – Numeracy: Number Course (5 lessons)
This 5-lesson course will teach students to master Year 2-level counting and number placement skills. Our experienced tutors will use a range of interactive teaching techniques to help students count fluently, make estimates and accurately compare numbers.
Skills taught on this course include:
- Writing numbers from 1 to 100
- Counting in steps of 2, 3 and 5
- Estimating and identifying amounts
- Comparing numbers
- Recognising number placement
All class workbooks will be provided by the tutor. This course is suitable for students currently in Year 2 and students starting Year 2 next September.
This course follows the KS1 National Numeracy Curriculum for ‘Number’ topic.
Year 3 – Numeracy: Number and Fractions Course (5 lessons)
This 5-lesson course will teach students to master Year 3-level number and fractions skills. Our experienced tutors will use a range of interactive teaching techniques to help students solve practical number problems, count in fractions and use mixed fractions.
Skills taught on this course include:
- Counting and writing numbers 1 to 1000
- Recognise number placement
- Estimate values and solve practical number problems
- Counting in fractions and using mixed fractions
- Adding and subtracting fractions
All class workbooks will be provided by the tutor. This course is suitable for students currently in Year 3 and students starting Year 3 next September.
This course follows the KS2 National Numeracy Curriculum for ‘Number’ topic.
Year 4 – Numeracy: Number and Fractions Course (5 lessons)
This 5-lesson course will teach students to master Year 4-level counting and number skills. Our experienced tutors will use a range of interactive teaching techniques to help students solve number problems, recognise number placement and round numbers.
Skills taught on this course include:
- Counting in multiples of 6, 7, 9, 25 and 1000
- Use Roman numerals
- Recognise number placement
- Round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000
- Solve practical number questions
All class workbooks will be provided by the tutor. This course is suitable for students currently in Year 4 and students starting Year 4 next September.
This course follows the KS2 National Numeracy Curriculum for ‘Number’ topic.
Year 5 – Numeracy: Number and Geometry Course (5 lessons)
This 5-lesson course will teach students to master Year 5-level counting and geometry skills. Our experienced tutors will use a range of interactive teaching techniques to help students solve number problems, round numbers, draw and measure angles and identify 3D shapes.
Skills taught on this course include:
- Counting to at least 1 million
- Counting forwards and backwards in steps of powers to 10
- Round numbers to nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000 and 100000
- Solve practical number problems
- Estimate and draw angles
- Identify 3D shapes
- Draw shape reflections and translations
All class workbooks will be provided by the tutor. This course is suitable for students currently in Year 5 and students starting Year 5 next September.
This course follows the KS2 National Numeracy Curriculum for ‘Number’ topic.
Year 6 – Numeracy: Number, Fractions and Decimals Course (5 lessons)
This 5-lesson course will teach students to master Year 5-level counting and number skills. Our experienced tutors will use a range of interactive teaching techniques to help students confidently use negative numbers, use the 4 Operations and use decimals.
Skills taught on this course include:
- Count and compare numbers up to 10 million
- Use negative numbers
- Round whole numbers
- Use common factors to simplify fractions
- Use the 4 Operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
- Use decimals
All class workbooks will be provided by the tutor. This course is suitable for students currently in Year 5 and students starting Year 5 next September.
